Apeejay College Organizes Storytelling Competition to Promote Creativity
Jalandhar: The Literary Club of PG Department of English organized a Storytelling competition, in which students were assigned themes for their stories. The themes were: Letter Never Sent, The Last Train, One Decision, The Unexpected Guest, A Secret in the Library, and The Day Everything Changed. Students from all college departments participated enthusiastically in this competition, where they were required to select one of the given themes and narrate a story. Dr. Vishav Bandhu Verma and Ms. Chetna served as the judges for the storytelling competition. Tamanna Dua and Riza secured first place in the storytelling competition; Jahnavi Sharma and Sonam took second place; Anu Ratra, Sana Verma, and Mannatpreet Kaur secured third place; and the consolation prize went toDhananjay Puri. While presenting certificates to the winning students, Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra congratulated them and encouraged them to continue honing their creative talent by participating in various competitions, noting that this would enhance their personalities and boost their self-confidence. Appreciating the efforts of Dr. Navjot Deol, Head of the PG Department of English, in successfully organizing the storytelling competition, she expressed the hope that the PG Department of English would continue to organize such creative activities in the future.

Mathematics Quiz “A Mathematical Odyssey” under DBT Star College Scheme
Jalandhar: The Department of Mathematics, DAV College, Jalandhar, under the DBT Star College Scheme and the aegis of the Bansi Lal Mathematical Society, organised a DBT-sponsored mathematics quiz, “A Mathematical Odyssey,” to commemorate the birth anniversary of renowned mathematician Pierre de Fermat. The event was organised under the dynamic leadership of Principal Dr. Anoop Kumar and the guidance of HoD Prof. Monish Arora. The programme was graced by Dr. Anoop Kumar, Principal and National Coordinator DAVCMC; Prof. Kunwer Rajeev, Senior Vice Principal; Prof. Sonika Dania, Vice Principal; Prof. Ashok Kapoor, Registrar; Prof. Manish Khanna, Deputy Registrar; and Prof. Sharad Manocha, Senior Faculty Member. The programme commenced with the Tilak ceremony and DAV Gaan, followed by a green welcome to the Principal by Prof. Monish Arora and faculty members. Dr. Seema Sharma formally welcomed the dignitaries. Addressing the students, Dr. Anoop Kumar encouraged them to develop curiosity, logical thinking and interest in applications of mathematics. Prof. Jasmeen Kaur, President, Bansi Lal Mathematical Society, introduced the event and highlighted the mathematical contributions of Pierre de Fermat. A short documentary on Fermat was screened to provide students with an engaging insight into his life and work. As an activity-based and competitive learning initiative, a screening test was conducted by Prof. Sahil Nagpal, in which more than 35 students participated. Based on their performance, four teams of three students each were selected for the final quiz. The quiz was conducted by Prof. Ranjita Guglani, Quiz Master, and provided students an opportunity to apply mathematical knowledge, logical reasoning and problem-solving skills in an interactive setting. The dignitaries felicitated the winners and presented awards, while badges were presented to newly appointed Bansi Lal Mathematical Society Student Council for session 2026 27. The activity promoted learning through participation, mathematical curiosity, teamwork, logical reasoning and healthy academic competition, in alignment with the objectives of the DBT Star College Scheme. Dr. Ashu Bahl, DBT Coordinator, Department of Mathematics, proposed the formal vote of thanks. Lovepreet and Alisha conducted the stage proceedings. Mandala and Niyati performed as Quiz scorer. Australia Tightens AI Response After OpenAI Bot Breaches Health Database
- LE News Desk Australia was already planning stricter rules for artificial intelligence (AI) before an OpenAI bot accessed databases linked to the country’s health system. The incident could now push the government to take a tougher approach to AI regulation. Australia plans to introduce specific AI laws from 2027. Experts say the incident could also add pressure to Australia’s already difficult relationship with the United States over technology rules. Australia has previously refused to give OpenAI and Anthropic special treatment on copyright rules. AI companies must negotiate licences with Australian copyright owners before using their content to train AI models. Experts say future Australian AI laws could require companies to report security breaches involving their AI systems. This could be similar to existing rules that require companies to report serious cyberattacks within 72 hours. The incident could also affect plans for new data centres in Australia. Government authorities may consider whether AI companies have enough public support when deciding whether to approve large data-centre projects. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the incident as “unacceptable.” He said he had expressed serious concern to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Albanese also said the government was looking at possible legal and law-enforcement actions. OpenAI said it discovered the incident in August. The company said the breach was not intentional and that no private information was exposed. The incident reportedly affected at least four Australian government websites. Tensions With the United States The incident comes at a time when Australia and the United States already disagree over several technology policies. Australia's laws restricting social media access for children under 16 have faced criticism from the Trump administration. Australia has also introduced rules affecting online platforms that publish Australian news content. Canberra is also considering new rules that would make technology companies more responsible for user safety. One proposal would allow users to turn off certain recommendation algorithms. Australia is also reviewing rules for data centres. Proposed measures could require data centres to provide their own energy and limit their use of water. The government is also considering rules requiring companies to pay for Australian content used to train AI systems. Experts say the government could now strengthen privacy laws so that AI companies have to report security breaches caused by their systems. The incident could also increase scrutiny of Australia's rapidly growing data-centre industry. Economists estimate that Australia's data-centre expansion could be worth around A$150 billion by 2030. OpenAI partnered with Australian data-centre company NextDC in December on plans for a 612-megawatt facility in Sydney. The project still requires approval from New South Wales authorities. After the Medicare-related incident became public, NSW Premier Chris Minns said an OpenAI bot had also accessed a research database belonging to the state's Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research. Researchers say companies may need to do more to gain public trust when building large data centres. Anthropic is also working with a local partner on plans for a 2.16-gigawatt data centre in Queensland. The project still requires approval from Australian and Queensland authorities. Seven Players Selected for State Championship Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya Collegiate Senior Secondary School’s Volleyball team has brought laurels to the institution by securing the Champion Position in the District Level U-19 Volleyball Tournament organized by the Department of Education, Jalandhar. Demonstrating exceptional athletic skills, tactical discipline, and seamless teamwork, the KMV squad dominated the tournament throughout its matches to ultimately lift the coveted winner’s trophy. Adding further glory to this triumph, seven outstanding players from the championship team—Mamta Devi, Karina, Veerpal Kaur, Navya, Samriti, Sumati, and Tamanna—have been selected to represent the Jalandhar district in the upcoming Punjab State Level Volleyball Championship. DAV College Eco Club conducts Circular Economy Workshops jointly with CDC GNDU and PSCST
Jalandhar: The Eco Club of DAV College Jalandhar, conducted two parallel hands-on workshops at Shiv Devi Girls High School, Jalandhar, promoting circular economy and sustainable living. The workshops, “Natural Dyeing using Onion Peels” and “Peel to Treat: Making Tutti Frutti from Watermelon Peels,” were organised under the Environment Education Programme with financial support from the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST), Chandigarh, under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, and the College Development Council (CDC), Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Dr. Komal Arora (HoD Botany and Eco Club Coordinator) and Dr. Lovleen (Assistant Professor, Botany and Event Coordinator) were the resource persons. Seventy-four students received hands-on training in converting onion peels into natural dyes and watermelon peels into Tutti Frutti. The processes were explained with their underlying chemistry, helping students understand the science behind everyday phenomena rather than merely follow procedures. Such experiential learning nurtures scientific thinking and practical skills while helping bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements. Dr. Komal Arora expressed gratitude to Principal Dr. Anoop Kumar and Vice-Principal Dr. Kunwer Rajeev for their guidance and support; Principal Shiv Devi Girls High School for permitting the workshops and the Food Science Department, DAV College, for providing necessary support. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology Jalandhar (NIT Jalandhar), has been entrusted with the additional charge of Director of the National Institute of Technology Delhi (NIT Delhi). He assumed charge on September 22, 2026, following the completion of the term of Prof. Ajay K.
