Jalandhar/Kapurthala/Chandigarh: Prof. (Dr.) Yadwinder Singh Brar, a well-known name in academics and higher education, took charge on Thursday as the 20th Vice-Chancellor (officiating) of I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar-Kapurthala. He has taken over the post after the tenure of the previous Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Susheel Mittal, came to an end.

The Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training, Government of Punjab, has issued the official order giving Prof. Brar additional charge of the vacant Vice-Chancellor post, along with his existing role as Dean of the Faculty of the University. He is currently serving as Dean Academic and Head of the Electrical Engineering Department at the university.

After taking charge, Prof. (Dr.) Brar expressed his gratitude to the Governor of Punjab and University Chancellor, Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria; Chief Minister of Punjab, S. Bhagwant Singh Mann; Technical Education Minister, S. Harjot Singh Bains; University Board Chairman, Sh. Anoop Bector; and other senior officials for entrusting him with this important responsibility.

Prof. (Dr.) Yadwinder Singh Brar holds a strong reputation in the field of Electrical Engineering. He belongs to Moga district in Punjab and completed his studies in Electrical Engineering from Panjab University, Chandigarh. With 34 years of experience in teaching, research, and administration, he has earlier worked as a faculty member at Giani Zail Singh College of Engineering & Technology, Bathinda, and Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana. Many of his former students have gone on to build successful careers in engineering at the international level. He has also published more than 200 research papers during his career.

To mark the occasion of his taking charge as Vice-Chancellor, a recitation of Shri Sukhmani Sahib and prayers were held at the University Vice-Chancellor Secretariat, wishing for the university's progress, a bright academic future for its students, and the wellbeing of all.

The University Officers Association and the Employees Association welcomed Prof. Brar and extended their best wishes to him. Several senior officials were present at the event, including University Registrar Dr. Navdeepak Sandhu, Dean R&D Dr. Parveen Bansal, Dean Student Welfare Dr. Satbir Singh, Controller of Examinations Dr. Paramjit Singh, and Finance Officer Dr. Sukhbir Walia, along with other officers, faculty members, staff, and students.
