Microsoft company announced a range of new artificial intelligence (AI) technologies at its annual developer conference, Build 2026, signaling its vision for a future where AI plays a central role in computing. During the event, Microsoft showcased new AI-powered devices, advanced computers, and AI models designed to help users complete tasks more efficiently. The company aims to move beyond traditional software applications by introducing AI agents that can perform complex tasks on behalf of users.
Microsoft introduced a new computer called the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, powered by an Nvidia chip. CEO Satya Nadella described it as a "dream machine" and said he was eager to get one himself. The company also revealed Project Solara, a new family of AI devices. These compact devices, some as small as a smart speaker or ID badge, are designed to run AI agents instead of traditional apps. They can connect to cloud systems and perform tasks such as recording medical consultations and managing information.
Microsoft is also encouraging businesses to use AI directly on Windows computers. The company announced tools that will support openclaw, an open-source AI platform that allows multiple AI agents to work together on everyday tasks. New security features will help businesses safely use AI while protecting sensitive data. The company introduced a new AI assistant called Scout, which will be added to its Copilot software. Scout can help users manage emails, messages, and other tasks that require decisions and follow-up actions.
Microsoft also unveiled new AI models developed by its internal AI team. These include a speech transcription model, an image-generation model, and MAI Thinking-1, the company's first reasoning AI model designed to solve complex problems and compete with leading AI systems from other technology companies.
In the healthcare sector, Microsoft announced a partnership with mayo clinic to develop advanced AI tools for medical diagnosis. The collaboration aims to help doctors reach faster and more accurate diagnoses, ultimately improving patient care.
