Jalandhar: A review meeting to assess the preparedness for Phase-II (Population Enumeration) of Census 2027 in respect of District Jalandhar was convened on 31st August, 2026 at District Administrative Complex, Jalandhar under the chairmanship of Dr. Navjot Khosa, IAS, Director, Census Operations, Punjab.
The meeting was attended by Shri Varjeet Walia, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Principal Census Officer, Jalandhar; Mrs. Amaninder Kaur Brar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General)-cum-Principal Census Officer, Jalandhar; Dr. Suman Deep Kaur, Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar; Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Assistant Commissioners, Tehsildars, Charge Officers and other officers/officials entrusted with Census duties.
The Director, Census Operations, placed on record her appreciation for the dedicated efforts put in by the Charge Officers and field functionaries which led to successful and timely completion of Phase-I – House Listing and Housing Census (HLO) operations in the district.
While underscoring the significance of advance planning and inter-departmental coordination, the Director directed that all pending activities relating to Census 2027 be completed within the prescribed timelines. The commendable work carried out in high-priority charges and in areas under the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar was specifically appreciated by the Director.
The Director further directed the Principal Census Officers and other Census Officers to ensure all requisite administrative and logistical arrangements for smooth, efficient and effective conduct of Population Enumeration.
Shri Varjeet Walia, Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar assured that the District Administration, in close coordination with Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar, would extend all necessary support and would ensure completion of all Census related activities within the stipulated timeframe, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India, to ensure collection of accurate, authentic and reliable data.
A detailed roadmap for timely and smooth conduct of Phase-II of Census 2027 was also discussed in the meeting. While reviewing the status of preparation of District Census Handbook (DCHB), the Deputy Commissioner instructed all Charge Officers to expedite the compilation and vetting of Village Directory and Town Directory data along with maps and to ensure its completion in all respects before the last date prescribed i.e. 08.09.2026.
The Principal Census Officers assured that the DCHB exercise as well as preparatory works for Phase-II would be completed within the prescribed timeline and all requisite assistance w.r.t the training and population enumeration would be provided to Charge Officers for accurate data collection and compilation.
