Jalandhar: Sant Baba Bhag Singh University successfully organised a one-day workshop on "Cyber Security: Challenges and Opportunities" on June 2, 2026. The event was conducted by the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) with the aim of creating awareness among students and faculty about emerging cyber threats, digital safety, and career opportunities in the field of cyber security. The workshop was held under the blessings of the university's founders and the guidance of Chancellor Sant Baba Manmohan Singh, Secretary Hardaman Singh Minhas, and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vijay Dhir.
The chief guest for the event was Harvinder Singh Virk, SSP Jalandhar (Rural), Punjab. Distinguished guests included Ravinder Pal Singh, SHO Adampur, and Mukesh Kumar, SP Punjab. The programme began with a devotional hymn presented by Engineer Navpreet Singh and his team. Dr. Anita Rani from the Punjabi Department introduced the audience to the university's rich heritage, achievements, and academic institutions.
Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vijay Dhir highlighted the growing importance of cyber security in today's digital world. He stressed the need for educational institutions to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to face evolving cyber challenges.
During his keynote address, SSP Harvinder Singh Virk educated students and faculty members about common cyber threats, online frauds, cybercrime trends, and the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He also shared information about initiatives taken by the Cyber Crime Department to combat digital crimes and advised participants on best practices for staying safe online.
Encouraging practical learning, he invited students to visit the Cyber Crime Branch and local jail facilities to gain first-hand knowledge of modern law enforcement techniques and cybercrime investigation methods. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 150 students and 20 faculty members from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Participants gained valuable insights into cyber security challenges and opportunities, making the event successful in promoting cyber awareness among youth. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Jagdeep Kaur, the workshop convener and Dean of UIET, who expressed gratitude to the guests, speakers, organising committee, faculty members, and students for their contributions to the successful event.
